Mikey Filmmaker was born on May 31, 1985. He grew up in Peabody, MA with a younger sister, Lori. He was the first child of Lou and Melissa. He spent his youth wanting to be an entomologist studying ants, but that all changed when he discovered television and film.
In high school, he began to pursue his dreams. He helped out at the local cable company, eventually becoming a successful color commentator for various sports. He also served as the inaugural director of the high school morning news show during his senior year.
Although, his greatest achievement at that time was producing and hosting his own public access show, Public Invasion, with a childhood friend. They produced 24 episodes and even received some local press.
After spending a year of college in Massachusetts, he left for California in August 2004 to attend Chapman University. He made an immediate impact at Chapman with films such as Wicked Pissah, Snuggle, The Beautiful Picnic, and Intuition. By his senior year, he was a well respected filmmaker. He specialized in producing and assistant directing.
His most ambitious project was his senior thesis film, Sweet Pea. Mikey had begun writing the short film in the fall of 2005. Production began in October 2006 and wrapped in early November. The film premiered in May 2007 at Chapman to rave reviews. Only months later in September, he brought the film back to his home state to officially premiere it at the Boston Film Festival.
After graduation, Mikey continues to follow his dreams. He’s not sure what role this site plays in the big picture, but appreciates the visit.
